Find the best Llanddew walks. The Ramblers Association now have a greatly improved website which is an exceptional resource for all walkers, hikers and young families wanting to go for walks with young children. This site lists everything from historical walks to leader led walks to any really arduous walks within the Brecon area.

Find A Walk Near Me by Walking Britain is a truly excellent and free resource. Just enter where you are or where you would like to walk - and print out directions. The walks are graded and you can buy a specific map of the area at the same time. These are proper OS maps and weather proofed if required.

I always think of walking as one of the few activities you can do for free - and now you can with this guide!

Walking, Hiking and Outdoor Shops

Cotswold Outdoor

102 The Struet, Brecon LD3 7LT, UK – 01874 622551

Great store with really helpful staff that are far from pushy which is great. There is also a couple of store dogs that are very welcoming 😃

Friendly staff store got everything you need for camping and walking....very nice

Gibb Outdoors

42-43, High St, Brecon LD3 7AP, UK – 01874 622949

Just bought my wife a pair of Altberg boots ( made in Yorkshire). Service was exemplary and a suitable discount for alpine club members was applied without query. A painless and successful purchase as I wanted to buy boots made in the UK and distributors for these boots are rather rare in Wales. Time will tell on how good they are but the first fit was very good. I would recommend this shop for efficient but un-pushy service.

Went to buy a new pair of walking boots for the wife after buying various pairs from "shed" retailers which never live up to the hype. Ian Gibb the co owner couldn't have been more helpful ,we did some research on line and wanted to try a specific pair but he advised her to try a number of different types, settled in the end on a different cheaper pair and there was no pressure to buy the more expensive ones we went in for. I think this shop is a credit to its owners and we need to keep these places before they disappear under the weight of big business. Buy once buy wise

Mountain Warehouse

Unit 4, Bethal Square, Vicarage Road, Brecon LD3 7JP, UK – 01874 620867

What service! Amongst the best I've have ever experienced. Got a great deal on on an excellent rain coat and top notch boots.

Good quality goods at very good prices right in the centre of Brecon.

WalkingWorld.jpg
Another good one. Walkingworld has huge library of guides with a good selection of walks, of varying lengths and grades, pretty well anywhere in the UK. The walks come in an excellent format making them very easy to follow, with photographs to illustrate every important decision point and a proper Ordnance Survey map.

A modist annual subscription gives you unlimited access to all the walks. However you can Pay As Go by downloading indiviual walks.

Crucially you can also find walks France, Spain, Norway, Portugal and Australia!

Camping and Caravaning

Bishops Meadow Caravan and Camping Park

The Meadows Bishops Meadow, Hay Rd, Brecon LD3 9SW, UK – 01874 610000

Great campsite and staff where all really happy and helpfull and the toilets and showers are big and clean and there is more than 1 block of them. We will Deffinetly return there the restaurant does really nice food and drink and with plenty of seats and an amazing view of the mountains in the distance. I would suggest a torch for the toilet walk at night as around the site there isn't any intrusive lights so it is a bit dark but around the toilet block has lights and all the people around where nice and friendly aswell

Love it there lovley people always kept lovely and clean plenty of places to go glad we moved there peace and quiet x

Brecon Beacons Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

Brecon LD3 7SH, UK – 01874 623325

Wow what a great Site, super clean , well maintained & friendly Staff, it's everything you hope it's going to be when you make the booking. The Site is also in a great location for those who fancy a bit of adventure, there are plenty of things to see and do close by. We had the most amazing long weekend here.

Lovely site with generous sized pitches. Well stocked shop and friendly staff. Facilities were great and kept clean. Good dog walk and children’s play areas. You can walk to Brecon along the tow path approx 1 mile. We had a fully serviced hard standing pitch. We will definitely be back.

Priory Mill Farm

Hay Rd, Brecon LD3 7SR, UK

Wonderful. Quiet, calm setting. Right by the river but at a raised level so no midges! Everything has been beautifully thought out. Very close to town but when on site you could be on another world. Friendly available hosts who are always there but never on top of you watching. Facilities are more than adequate and we will be going back!

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting the Beacons for a cycling holiday. Lovely quiet campsite which we were welcomed to by the owners who live on site in a beautiful farmhouse. I would say it's more 'glamping' than simply camping - excellent facilities including shower block, washing up and laundry area, freezer storage, bike shed and even phone charging sockets! Campfires, eggs and other amenities are available from the farmhouse on request so be sure to take advantage of a cosy fire by the river. Only a 5 minute walk down the road into the town of Brecon for a supply run and or eating out. This was a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful surrounding area.
